Character Information

Character Name: Kanon
Character Series: Litchi Hikari Club
Character Age: Somewhere around 15
Character Gender: Female
Original Canon
Canon Point: Chapter Nine, when Jaibo cuts her throat.
Background Link: Tv Tropes
Personality: Although it's implied Kanon was raised to be the perfect image of a 'lady', due to being sent to a famous girls' school, she has a strong playful streak. When Litchi confesses he chose to kidnap her because she was pretty, she teases him about being a playboy. Prior to that, when she finally eats the food left for her, she winks and claims it was because talking to Litchi made her hungry.

Kanon is incredibly merciful. The only time she ever lashes out against her captors is when Zera finally speaks to her face to face, when she then tells him he's the worst. She holds no grudge against Litchi for being the one who grabbed her and even saves two members of the club who organized her kidnap. Kanon tells Litchi that he cannot kill any more people after she witnesses him snap Kaneda in half, both to protect his sense of humanity and the Hikari Club. Once she's released after each member of the club is dead, she wishes them farewell and hopes they can be at peace.

Debatably a coping mechanism, one of Kanon's most noticeable traits is her naivety. She tends to accept whatever someone says when she knows little about a topic (she honestly believes she will be reborn as a machine after her execution, due to knowing little about technology) and will continue to believe them until someone can convince her otherwise.

But, despite her naivety, Kanon is an incredibly strong. The other kidnapped girls sob and beg to be let free (quite rightly), Kanon never, at any stage, cries or pleads with her captors. The only time she is shown to shed tears is when she loses Litchi and Nico 'dies', despite having faced potential death via drowning, molestation, kidnapping and witnessed numerous brutal executions. It could be theorized that her naivety is what keeps her so emotionally stable, although after saving Tamiya, she seems to fully understand that she will almost certainly end up being murdered by the club. She is also strong enough to manage to pretend to be asleep for three days, depriving herself of food and water solely so she doesn't give the captors the satisfaction of seeing her upset.

Her strength also lays in her loyalty. Once Kanon is attached to someone, it's hard to convince her to leave. During canon, she has two chances to escape, but rejects both in favor of staying with Litchi. The first is during Tamiya's escape after she saves him and Nico from both starving to death and dying from their burns. Tamiya and Litchi manage to lift her on to the roof, where she can easily get down and run for help, but when Litchi is unable to climb up and join her, she jumps back into the base, informing Tamiya that she can't leave Litchi by himself - despite being fully aware he is, in fact, a machine. Kanon's loyalty even extends to the point where she can forgive a friend for almost anything. When Litchi is forced to drown her, she doesn't cuss, scream or even fight, instead calmly reminding him of his humanity and smiling at him. Then, even when he does drown her, she shows no rage or annoyance at this act, despite now knowing she won't be reborn as a machine.

Kanon's open-mindedness is another one of her stronger traits. When she first meets Litchi, she questions whether he's truly human, to which he replies by insisting he is. Instead of arguing with him, Kanon accepts it, regarding him as a human for the rest of the manga, even reminding him that he is a human being during several key moments. Further, she doesn't seem at all bothered by the idea of falling in love with a machine. At no stage does she wish Litchi was physically human, completely accepting him as he is (although she does consider it to be a good thing if she becomes a machine). It can also be assumed she was awake (although pretended to be asleep) during one of Jaibo and Zera's 'meetings'. However, Kanon never shows any disgust at the thought of two men being in a relationship, apparently shrugging it off, as she never brings it up with Litchi.

Kanon is a natural romantic. She often tries to instruct Litchi in how to be more romantic with her, telling him to do things like holding her while she sleeps and dancing with her, with varying degrees of success. She holds the idea of a perfect romance, telling Litchi only to call someone pretty when he's in love with them, describing love as the feeling of your heart wanting to explode. She also dreams about Litchi becoming a Prince when he dances with her, telling him that in her mind, they live together in a castle as royalty.

It may be sheer stupidity, but Kanon appears to be a rather brave person, sacrificing herself on numerous occasions to help others. When Litchi bursts into flames, she throws herself at him to push him into a nearby puddle, ignoring - and not even considering - the danger tackling a flaming robot could cause her. Again, despite knowing she may be killed for it, she rescues and attempts to heal Tamiya and Nico during their executions, even though Tamiya acts ungrateful while she dresses his wounds. She further sacrifices herself when she refuses to escape the hideout with Tamiya, opting to remain with Litchi instead so he doesn't have to be alone in facing Zera.

Kanon isn't sunshine and tea parties all the time, though. She has a habit of going through waves of self-loathing. During the period when she still believes she will be reborn as a machine, she asks Litchi if he'll be happier when she's metallic, claiming that when she undergoes her transformation, she won't be such a burden on him, anymore. She also insists that he won't hate her if she's the same as him, making it quite clear she finds herself quite unlikable. Even when Litchi reassures her that he could never hate her, she shrugs off his comment and changes the subject, seemingly unchanged in her view.

Like many young girls, Kanon appears to enjoy acting like an adult. She scolds Litchi when he refuses to remove her handcuffs, calling him a child for taking his orders so literally. She also scolds Tamiya when he complains about he being too rough with when tending to his wounds, telling him that, as a boy, he should be able to deal with the pain.

For better or worse, Kanon is brutally honest. She's not afraid to speak her mind, regardless of the consequences. When Zera is going to drown her, she speaks to him for the first time, telling him that he's the worst kind of person. She even remarks to Litchi that she thinks Zera has a screw loose, and refers to him as a weirdo.

In the end, Kanon's motivations are clear; she wants everyone to be happy. She may not be some kick-ass action girl, but she honestly wants to help everyone, whether the consequences of said kindness are positive or negative for her. Kanon has something of a romanticized world, a world where everyone can live together safely - or at least survive - and she's willing to do whatever it takes to have that world become a reality.

Abilities: Kanon is just your regular human being, so lacks any kind of superhuman powers. She does, however, have a talent for holding her breath for extended periods of time (this talent ends up saving her life), playing piano and singing. She knows a few basic dance steps, but there's no evidence to suggest she's any better than the average person.

Sample Entry: Good Old D_M!
